Pool Table Moving Guide — Slate, Cushions and Re-Levelling
Why a slate-bed pool table is a specialist move — disassembly, transport, re-levelling and re-clothing explained by UK pool table movers.
A full-size 7- or 8-foot slate pool table weighs 300–500 kg, split across two or three slates. Moving it intact is impossible and trying it will crack the slate, snap the cushions or drop a corner on your toes. Here is how UK pool table specialists handle it.
The proper disassembly sequence
- Remove cushions and pocket leathers
- Lift and label each slate (they are NOT interchangeable)
- Unscrew the frame and legs
- Wrap every piece individually — slates ride flat, never on edge
- Reassemble in reverse, levelling slates with shims to ±1mm
- Re-clothe the bed — stretched, glued and steam-set
Typical UK costs
Most local 7-foot pool table moves run £350–£600 including disassembly, transport and re-levelling. Re-clothing is usually an additional £180–£300. Snooker tables (10-12 ft) sit at the top of the bracket.
